ShamWow and the Best Pitchman Ever
I wanted to show you this commercial for ShamWow, because I think it's brililant: Why? Because it's one of the few commercials where the speaker gives the impression that they aren't talking off of a script. I watch this and actually believe this guy knows the product and loves it. I personally don't think he's going off of a script because of all the edits to his presentation - which is either a sign that he was doing his own thing and they cut it to fit the commercial, or they designed that into the production so it would look that way. Either way, it works. This ad is effective because here Shamwow isn't showing images with a voice over spoken by a guy who reads 20 commercials a day. It also doesn't use the owner or president or inventor of ShamWow, who, however sincere, isn't an actor or presenter. (Presumably - for all I know Tony Robbins invented the stuff.) In short, sincerity and belief in your product can go a long way, and probably save you money on hired talent.

I too, am a ShamWow enthusiast. I absolutely love the product and the commercial, (though I don't actually own a ShamWow), but now that I think of it, I think I'll add it to my Christmas list. Every time the commercial comes on, I get all hyped up and my heart starts racing. His enthusiasm is downright contagious. I think the fact that he's using a headset makes him more effective, because he can use both hands to express how excited he is about ShamWow. You just can't deny the excitement of the product - who wouldn't want a single cloth that is the most absorbent thing in the world? Hell, if I had kids, I'd use ShamWows as diapers. Ain't nothing going to get through that!
