Heavy Interest in The Birk Recovery Plan
Attention blog post commentators: For future reference, if you want to convince a reader that the person you are writing about is unintelligent, it is best to refrain from calling that person a, "dufus." Last week, Paul posted (or re-posted) a piece called, "The Birk Recovery Plan," which was an alternative to the current bail out of American financials being debated. We received an unbelieveable number of responses to this posting - I mean in the hundreds of responses - and roughly all of them saying the same thing: "Dude, your math is wrong, it's $425 not $425,000." Fair enough, "dude" - I've also gone over the math, and you are correct: The division in the post described actually comes to $425. What I wonder about, frankly, are where all of these people came from who commented about this one rather inoccuous post. We have written about a LOT of subjects in the last two years. NONE of them have gotten this level of response, much less this level of consistency. While we are, in fact, ranked #1 in Google right now for "Birk economic recovery" and "Birk recovery plan," we have not received a level of traffic from this phrase showing all of these comments coming from Google searchers. Trust me on this one - tracking this kind of stuff is what we do for a living. If you look through all of those responses, for the most part, they are all negative and cite this division error. Not that incorrect math is forgivable, but frankly I've committed the lion's share of mis-spellings on this blog, and no one outside the office has ever called me on it. I can only assume that either this plan has gotten a lot more steam than I thought it was getting, or there is a very targeted e-mail campaign notifying that notoriously horrifying collection of "concerned citizens" and requestiong they bomb any blog they find this plan mentioned on. I'm not quite sure which. But in the meantine, I'll keep sifting through all of these comments - more for any one post on this blog ever, short of the spam links for online pharmacies, pictures of Paris Hilton, and other forms of noxious spam. In the meantime, I'm going to stop approving these comments. That so many people found this interesting enough to post on smacks of some kind of cabal, and frankly, the topic isn't important enough to entertain such a thing.
