Good News for Mobile Marketing
Some hopeful news for people interested in starting an SMS mobile phone advertising campaign:
- "According to digital marketer Access 360 Media, only 4 percent of users who sign up for the texts ask to stop getting them"
- "Quattro Wireless, a mobile ad net provider, says between 2- and 4 percent of those who see or receive ads on mobile phones click on them to find out more information."
(Read the article here.) Good news, especially if you have something to say directly to the Myspace Generation. As these kids get older, their familiarity with the technology should remain, so the number of services and products you can share with them on their phones will increase. (Hope hope.) This could easily turn ugly if everyone started suddenly pitching to teens over their phones, of course. Employing Seth Godin's permission marketing will be a very good idea.

When social networking sites started cropping up, at first I started using them to create backlinks - but they weren't the best for that, given all of the "nofollow" attributes. However, I did see the potential for all of the direct referral traffic they represent. Since then I've been actively pursuing both tactics for clients: Links that can help them for search, and social postings that get them involved in the conversation.
