Off Madison Ave celebrates 3 1/2th Annual Mustache Contest

This week, Off Madison Ave had its 3½ Annual Mustache contest – our first. (Frankly, the math here eludes me.) The collected photos of our contest are viewable on the Off Madison Ave Flickr page, so be sure and check them out. We will be having our next mustache contest either next year, or June 2011. We have a crack team of Franciscan monks armed with abacuses working around the clock trying to determine which. There were four categories one could win in for the competition. This was fortunate, as there were only four contestants. So here are all four, with the category they won in: Paul – Bushiest Mustache Chris – Judge’s Choice Award Brian – Most Pathetic Mustache I myself won for, “creepiest,” which apparently means “sexiest,” because I most certainly was. When you are me, however, this is par for the course.

I am the Social Media Services Manager for Off Madison Ave. I've been with the company since 2006, when I was hired to do SEO, and link building in particular. When social networking sites started cropping up, at first I started using them to create backlinks - but they weren't the best for that, given all of the "nofollow" attributes. However, I did see the potential for all of the direct referral traffic they represent. Since then I've been actively pursuing both tactics for clients: Links that can help them for search, and social postings that get them involved in the conversation. It's about the coolest job you could ever get. ;)

Yes, it is true I won most pathetic for my "mustache" which required zero maintenance (but a lot of awkward explanations) in the month it took to grow.

Some say I'm lucky to not have to shave but once a week...but for someone who idolizes Chuck Norris (who doesn't) for his magic power containing facial hair, I'd say I'm going to have to learn patience.

Hopefully some day I'll be able to grow facial hair that doesn't resemble that of a high schooler, but until then I'll just enjoy my extra length shoe horn which happens to save me not only time but also reduces the need to sit down while putting my shoes on in the morning.

While there were only four in the vote, there were plenty of participants in the contest. Not everyone was able to be in the office on voting day, which makes me think there may have been some backroom hi-jinks to skew the vote in favor of those in the office that day.

For I believe the most pathetic should have gone to me, but alas my absence on vote day snatched away victory and gave it to a mediocre pathetic mustache.

Actually, most of the mustaches were downright pathetic. Facial hair is not an attribute this agency should promote any time in the near future.

Cheers to all of the men who endured strange looks, laughs, ridicule and lack of intimacy with their partner in pursuit of the mustache competition. As an observer and voter, it was totally worth it!

Never before has facial hair made me so curious.
