Social Networking for those old enough to know better

Hip elderly personI just wanted to share a site I came across recently in my quest to learn every single social networking site in existence. (Honestly, the moment a place gets electricity for the first time, someone uses it first to plug in a computer and build a social network.) Eons - social network for the 50 and older set The first thing I noticed about this site was the design - very clean, very functional, and neither gets too complicated to use, nor assumes the 50-something user is stupid. Philosophically, I like the idea of a social network that doesn't cater to teenagers or twenty-somethings. There is an entire demographic that goes largely ignored because of the assumption that the youth market buys everything. With the splintering of every market under the sun, older is just another target, like goth chicks or pre-teen jocks. It's nice to see that someone is considering the older crowd before they have to. I mean, eventually, MySpace WILL be for the elderly, and whatever takes its place as the hot spot for teens and twenty-somethings will take over. And then that will be pushed along with all the by then growing older folks, and that one's replacement will be made, and so on and so on and so on... Not that it will matter to me by then - I'll be dead! :)

I am the Social Media Services Manager for Off Madison Ave. I've been with the company since 2006, when I was hired to do SEO, and link building in particular. When social networking sites started cropping up, at first I started using them to create backlinks - but they weren't the best for that, given all of the "nofollow" attributes. However, I did see the potential for all of the direct referral traffic they represent. Since then I've been actively pursuing both tactics for clients: Links that can help them for search, and social postings that get them involved in the conversation. It's about the coolest job you could ever get. ;)
