"Sopranos" fans show us what "Pithy 2.0" means

In the Washington Post today, another story about rabid "Sopranos" fans reeling from not getting satisfying resolution from the TV series' finale this Sunday. What's interesting is their citing Yahoo! Search, which revealed that the number one search term since Sunday has been, "Sopranos sucked," "Sopranos finale sucked," "Sopranos ending sucked..." surely, there are millions of fans reaching out for someone else who feels the same way as they do about what happened on that final show. Bloggers have similarly been weighing in, and the David Chase page on Wikipedia has been vandalized so thoroughly, it had to be blocked from editing. (If you want to read some examples, the history tab of is page is worth a look-see.) While I think it is concerning that so many people could care so much about a show, even if it is on HBO and not basic cable, this is a good example of the kind of "tipping" you want to create in web marketing. Here, an off line event inspired a great deal of this on line action - whether it's positive or not.

I am the Social Media Services Manager for Off Madison Ave. I've been with the company since 2006, when I was hired to do SEO, and link building in particular. When social networking sites started cropping up, at first I started using them to create backlinks - but they weren't the best for that, given all of the "nofollow" attributes. However, I did see the potential for all of the direct referral traffic they represent. Since then I've been actively pursuing both tactics for clients: Links that can help them for search, and social postings that get them involved in the conversation. It's about the coolest job you could ever get. ;)
